Net average salary in Romania down in January after December Christmas bonuses

The net average wage in Romania decreased by 8.5 percent in January this year compared to December 2011, to RON 1,467 (EUR 338), according to the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS). This evolution was mainly influenced by the bonuses granted in December 2011. The gross nominal average earning was RON 2,022 (EUR 465).

 Financial brokers had the highest net earnings on an average - RON 3,577 (EUR 824), while the lowest were reported in hotels and restaurants - RON 852 (EUR 196).

Computers and electronic manufacturing and  electronic and optical products  sectors has the most significant month-on-month decreases in net average wages in January 2012 - down 24.3 percent. Wages dropped by 20 and 23 percent in manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, telecommunications, and publishing activities, according to INS.

The most significant net average wages increases were reported in wood processing, wood products manufacturing and cork - up 10.1 percent. In the public sector, teachers saw their net waves down 2.6 percent.

Compared to January 2011, the net average wage increased by 3 percent in January this year. Read more here (PDF version, in Romanian).
