Romanian payment processor: More online transactions in the first quarter

05 May 2015

Romanian online payment processor Netopia mobilPay processed 20% more transactions in the first quarter of 2015, compared to the same period the year before, reaching a total of some 850,000.

The average value of a transaction amounted to EUR 50, 25% higher than the average online payments registered the previous year.

In the first months of the year, the company processed some 1,000 payments higher than EUR 1,000.

The largest online card payment reported by NETOPIA mobilPay in the first quarter amounted to some EUR 9,000 and was made for services. Two other transactions, also carried out for services, totaled some EUR 17,000.

“The increases recorded in the first quarter were influenced, on one hand, by the increasingly higher adoption of online payments by card in Romania, but also by the 150 new merchants attracted by the mobilPay platform,” reads a company statement.

Between January and March, the company processed ten times more mobile payments via the mobilPay wallet while their value increased three times compared to the same period in 2014.
