New Bucharest Symphony Season opens in October
The "George Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra will play at the Opening of the 2011-2012 Symphony Season that will be held at the Romanian Atheneum (1-3, Benjamin Franklin St.) in Bucharest, on October 6.
The Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Camil Marinescu, will play Gustav Mahler - Symphony no. 9 starting, 19:00 hours.
The "George Enescu" Philharmonic is one of Romania's representative music institutions. Founded in 1868, the "Romanian Philharmonic Society", under the leadership of Eduard Wachmann, organized a permanent symphony orchestra in order to spread the music culture and to popularize the classical music masterpieces. The "Philharmonic Society" held its first concert in December that year.
