New Cannes Lions prize spree for Romania: McCann Erickson gets silver and bronze for local advertising campaign
Romanian advertising agency McCann Erickson received two awards at the ongoing Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The agency received a Silver Lion in the category Promo&Activation Lions - Commercial Public Service, and a Bronze Lion in the category Direct Lions - Ambient media, both of them for the same campaign, the Digital Library, for telecom company Vodafone. The campaign consists of a billboard placed in a metro stations allowing people to download the books they are interested in by scanning the QR code placed on the volume.
According to McCann Erickson, this campaign helped the 'library' to record three times more e-books than the largest e-books provider in Romania.
Several other agencies were included on the short list for the categories for which prized were awarded on Monday evening (June 17), and Graffiti BBDO is still on the short list for Outdoor and Press Lions, for which the winners are not yet announced.
This is not the first win for McCann Erickson at Cannes Lions. In 2011, the agency got two gold medals and two bronze medals for the campaign for the chocolate bar Rom.
The Cannes Lions festival started on June 17 and will end on June 23. It is a yearly event which takes place in Cannes.
