New heat wave takes over half of Romania this week
A new heat wave will hit Romanian capital Bucharest and 21 counties in the south and west regions of the country, going under a code yellow for heat starting Tuesday (August 21 ). Temperatures will easily reach 39°C and the temperature-moisture index will exceed the 80 threshold, pointing to thermal discomfort.
It will be extremely hot on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the south of the country – the regions Crişana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, and in the south – west of Transylvania.
The code yellow for heat is valid for the counties Bihor, Arad, Timiş, Caraş-Severin, Hunedoara, Alba, Gorj, Mehedinţi, Dolj, Vâlcea, Argeş, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Dâmboviţa, Prahova, Ilfov, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomiţa şi Călăraşi.
This new period with high temperatures comes after a long period of drought in Romania, which already affected most crops in the country.
