The new Center for Israeli Studies in Bucharest is holding its inaugural conference this week. The event, titled Contemporary Issues in Israeli Politics and Society, will run on February 20 and 21 and features academics and members of the Romanian and Israeli diplomatic cores.

The new center and the event itself are at the National University of Political Science and Public Administration (NUPSPA), which is currently attempting to “broaden deepen the knowledge of the socio-political realities from different regions of the world.”

Some of the themes to be covered by the participants are modern politics in Israel, politics and religion, regional security issues, the Arab minority and the Israeli-Diaspora. The new center will run more academic events in the near future and is aiming to set up an MA in Israeli studies in cooperation with universities in Israel.

The event starts at 09:30 on Wednesday 20 and the participants include Prof. Remus Pricopie, Minister of Education, Prof. Alina Bârgăoanu, ad-interim rector of NUPSPA, Liliana Popescu, Prorector of NUPSPA, Cristian Pîrvulescu, dean of the Faculty of Political Science (NUPSPA), Prof. Liviu Rotman, Director of the Center for Israeli Studies, representatives of the diplomatic corps of Romania and Israel, as well as other guests.
