22 June 2015

The local Conservative Party (PC) merged with the Liberal Reformist Party (PLR) on Friday last week (June 19) during a PC congress. The new party is called the Alliance of the Liberals and Democrats (ALDE).

PLR president Calin Tariceanu and PC president Daniel Constantin signed the merger protocol. The two will share the presidency of the new party.

ALDE represents the middle class, the entrepreneurs, the liberal professions and those who work in public service, said Tariceanu, cited by local Mediafax.

The new party is part of the political coalition that supports Victor Ponta’s Government, which also includes the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Union for Romania’s Progress (UNPR).
