Which is the most loved local football team in Romania?

Almost half of the Romanians (49%) are fans of Steaua Bucharest local football team, the country’s national champion of the last three seasons, according to a recent study conducted by social research institute CSCI. Steaua is also the only Romanian club that has ever won the UEFA Champions League (in fact the European Champions Cup), in 1984.

Steaua Bucharest is currently owned by local businessman George Becali. However, Becali has been in conflict with the Romanian Army, who patrons the Steaua Bucharest sports club, over the use of the Steaua brand and track record.

Dinamo Bucharest is the second most loved team in Romania, with 11% of the respondents being fans of this team, followed by CFR Cluj and CSU Craiova with 6% each. Rapid Bucharest, one of the oldest clubs in Romania, which now plays in the second league, is supported by 3% of Romanian football fans.

The poll was conducted between February 1 and February 4, on a sample of over 1,000 people.
