New subway line in Bucharest, 70% ready

The structural frame of Bucharest’s metro line M5 between Drumul Taberei and Eroilor is 70% ready, according to the Bucharest subway operator Metrorex.

This metro line, which is one of the most important urban infrastructure projects in Romania, should start to operate at the end of 2016, reports local Economica.net. It aims to transport about 64,000 people daily, according to Metrorex.

The first section of the Metro Line 5 will stretch over 6,871 km and will have ten stations, located between the Eroilor area and Raul Doamnei Street, in the Drumul Taberei neighborhood. Italian group Astaldi and Spanish FCC are the main companies of the joint venture that carries out the construction work. The contract amounts to EUR 177 million.
