New website allows consumers in Romania to compare retail prices

28 January 2015

The Competition Council and the National Authority for the Consumer’s Protection will launch by the end of the year a website called the Prices’ Monitor.

This will allow consumers to compare retailer prices on various products across the country.

The European Commission encourages the member states to offer consumers such information. Greece already has such an instrument, and it has helped reduce prices by 7%, said Bodgan Chiritoiu, president of the Competition Council, cited by local Economica.net.

The Retailers’ Association in Romania (AMRCR) has however announced that it would not support the website. They consider it useless, given that big retailers sometimes change product prices many times per day.
