03 August 2017

The next large earthquake in Romania could take place in 2040 or in 2077-2078 based on research and analyses, said Gheorghe Marmureanu, honorary director of Romania’s National Institute for Earth Physics (INFP), quoted by News.ro.

On the other side, the INFP director Constantin Ionescu said that such estimates can’t be made. The earthquakes recorded in the last days are normal for the Vrancea area, in central Romania, Ionescu added.

An earthquake of 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale occurred yesterday morning in the Vrancea seismic zone, in the Buzau county, at a depth of 132.5 kilometers.
