The painting “Pub in Rucar” (Carciuma la Rucar) by famous Romanian painter Nicolae Grigorescu has set a new record for the art market in Romania, after having been sold for EUR 230,000 at the Artmark auction house in Bucharest.

On the same occasion, another work by Grigorescu named “At the edge of the forest” (La marginea padurii) was bought for EUR 200,000. This amount surpassed the previous record of EUR 175,000, set last year by another Grigorescu painting, “Shepherdess” (Pastorita).

Other paintings that established new author records in the same auction were “Spring Flowers”(Stefan Luchian) sold for EUR cu 155,000 and “Charming sea” (Ion Tuculescu) for EUR 105,000.

Last year, Artmark auction house recorded auction art sales of EUR 5.5 million, which made up for 68 percent of the local art sales. The average acquisition rate for an Artmark auction was of 80.5 percent.
