No doctor in some 300 Romanian villages
About 300 localities in Romania lack a family doctor, and almost 2.3 million Romanians haven’t subscribed to any family doctor, said Vasile Ciurchea, the president of the National Health Insurance House (CNAS).
Some of the places that lack a doctor are also hard to reach. The CNAS has revised the rules, so as to grant higher bonuses for doctors who choose to work in these remote places.
“In the Danube Delta, the bonus is high, but there are only two doctors left. One has 4,500 patients and the other one, 5,500 patients,” said Ciurchea, cited by local Mediafax.
The 2.3 million Romanians who do not have any family doctor either work abroad, or did not need a doctor so far, Ciurchea added.
