No Pants Subway Ride, not so popular in Bucharest
Bucharest hosted the No Pants Subway Ride event on Sunday, January 10, for the second consecutive year.
However, the event was less popular than last year’s edition, with only 10 passengers boarding the subway wearing no pants, reports local Mediafax. In 2015, the event gathered a few dozen participants.
The 2016 edition of No Pants Subway Ride also had a social cause, as the participants could donate some clothes that they didn’t need anymore.
The participants and the organizers met on Sunday, January 10, at 15:00, at one of the metro stops in Bucharest, most of them also bringing clothes for donation. Alone or in pairs, they boarded the subway in shorts or boxers, triggering various reactions from passengers: while some couldn’t take their eyes off the half-naked people, others were more discreet and kept looking at their phones.
Moreover, while some of the other passengers found them nonconformists, there were also some people that called them “lunatics” and “extravagant”. However, most of the passengers admitted that they didn’t see the usefulness of the event.
The Romanian capital joined this event in 2015 when it organized the first event of this kind on January 11.
Organized by Improv Everywhere in New York City, the event was organized in 60 other cities in the world, on the same day. Some of the other cities that joined the event are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Boston, Brisbane, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Rome, and Washington.
