UPDATE: A Romanian among passengers killed in Ukraine plane downing
UPDATE: There was one Romanian citizen on board the Malaysia Airlines plane that was recently downed in Ukraine, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said, soon after disclosing that there weren't any Romanians on the passenger list. The Romanian had double citizenship.
The Ministry is still checking the list of passengers, together with the airline, to see whether any other Romanians were on board.
None of the plane’s 300 passengers survived the plane downing.
“Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that, following verification, there was no confirmation of any Romanian citizen on the passenger list of aircraft Boeing 777 belonging to Malaysia Airlines, that was conducting the flight MH17 on the Amsterdam - Kuala Lumpur route and crashed in eastern Ukraine,” reads the Ministry’s statement.
According to the statement, the crisis cell, together with diplomatic missions in Hague, Kuala Lumpur and Kiev, stay in permanent contact with local officials to confirm the final list of passengers.
The Malaysia Airlines plane is believed to have been gunned down by a Buk missile.
