Non-performing loans ratio reaches 13.6% in Romania

The non-performing loans ratio in the Romanian banking system reached 13.61% at the end of 2015, down by 7.1 percentage points compared to end-2014.

The ratio dropped significantly in the first half of 2015, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

The number of individuals with overdue payments exceeding 30 days dropped to 704,000 at the end of last year, down by 0.72% compared to the end of 2014. The unpaid debts over 30 days totaled EUR 2.5 billion, EUR 1.7 billion of which were overdue payments older than 90 days.

The banks also had EUR 800 million overdue sums to collect outside their balance sheets or outsourced to debt recovery firms.
