Norwegian Party wants country out of Schengen over Romania, Bulgaria

18 July 2012

The Norwegian Center Party would like Norway to leave the Schengen area in order to regain control of its borders, in view of Romania and Bulgaria's future entry to the border-free zone, according to Bulgarian news service Novinite.com.

"The Schengen Agreement makes it easier for criminals to enter Norway. We must take control of our own borders," Center Party MP Jenny Klinge (in picture) has told Klassekampen. She believes the two countries could join the Schengen area in fall, which makes it more urgent for Norway to control its borders. The MP believes it would be hard for the Norway Police to deal with organized crime coming from Romania and Bulgaria.

Her statement came after a group of 200 Southeastern European migrants, mostly Romanian and Bulgarian Roma, have been involved in another conflict in Norway, after having settled in a privately owned gravel pit in Oslo, according to Norwegian media.
