Number of births continues growing trend in Romania in November

More than 15,800 babies were born in Romania in November last year, 2,228 (16.4%) higher than the one registered in the same month of 2015, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

A total of 13,604 babies were born in November 2015.

The number of births has thus continued the growing trend in November 2016, after the 12.9% year-on-year increase in October, 8.6% growth in September, and 22.3% rise in August.

The number of deaths amounted to 21,569 in November 2016, being slightly higher than the one reported for the same month of 2015, of 21,553.

Thus, Romania had a natural decline (the number of live births minus the number of deaths) of 5,737 people in November 2016, lower than the 7,949 registered in the same month of 2015.

The infant mortality remained unchanged in November 2016 when compared to the previous month, at 100 babies aged under 1, but was lower when compared to November 2015, when 111 babies aged under 1 died.

In the first 11 months of 2016, 174,499 babies were born in Romania, 628 more than in the same period the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of deaths dropped by 3% year-on-year, and the natural decline decreased by 12%, to 64,695.

More than 203,000 babies were born in Romania in 2015, some 10% more compared to 2014. Last year was the second consecutive year when the number of births in the country increased, after reaching a record low of 176,000 in 2013. In 2014, the number of babies born in Romania was 185,000.
