The number of fixed telephone subscribers decreased by 0.8% in the first half of the year to 4 million, while the number of mobile services users who have a subscription for such services increased by 1.3% to 9.4 million, compared to June 2013, according to Romania's communications authority ANCOM.

The total number of active mobile services users (subscriptions and prepaid cards) reached 22.3 million, 1.4% less than in mid-2013, while the number of fixed lines decreased by 1.9% to 4.6 million, reports local Mediafax.

"The decrease in the number of active users of mobile services is due to the annual 3.4% decrease in the number of prepaid card users, but at the same time, it should be noted that the number of subscription mobile users has steadily increased in the last year," reads the ANCOM statement.
