Number of Romanian workers in the UK triples in one year
The number of Romanian workers in the UK went up three times (223%) in just one year. There were over 152,000 Romanians registered to work in the UK in March this year, much higher than the 47,000 recorded in 2014, according to official figures cited by Daily Mail.
The number of Romanian workers has thus surpassed the one of Polish workers – 115,600. Together, Romania and Poland account for a third of all foreign workers registered in the UK.
Bulgarian workers registered the second-highest increase, of 128%, reaching a total of over 40,000, followed by Italians with an increase of 34%.
Work restrictions in the EU for Romanians and Bulgarians were lifted at the beginning of January, 2014.
