Number of temporary workers doubles in Romania in 2013 on 2010 level

19 March 2014

Over 52,700 Romanians were employed as temporary workers in Romania in 2013, close to the level reported in the previous year, but almost double compared to 2010, when the number was of around 29,900, according to the Romanian Association of Temporary Work Agencies (ARAMT).

Around 62 percent of the temporary employments have a period of over three months, 29 percent last between one and three months, while nine percent are on short-term (under a month).

Compared to 2012, the share of employment periods within the total market of temporary work recorded an increase of some 50 percent in terms of commitments of over three months, while decreasing significantly in terms of commitments of under a month (down 50 percent) and those between one and three months (down 21 percent).

According to ARAMT members, in 2013, temporary work was widespread in production and services. These areas were followed by agriculture, constructions, and other sectors.

ARAMT members conduct, according to estimations, some 70 percent of the activities of temporary employment in Romania, recording a turnover of EUR 216 million in 2013, with EUR 40 million more than in 2012.

These statistics were presented during the first conference dedicated to temporary employment in Romania, organized by ARAMT on March 18.
