A new food labelling process will start on December 13, 2014, but a nutritional labelling and mentioning allergens on food labels will become mandatory on most pre-packaged food labels only in 2016 according to Romalimenta, the federation of employers in the food industry.

New terms will be introduced on food labels which will provide additional information on certain characteristics or the composition of the product, reports local Agerpres. It will be mandatory for non-pre-packaged food to have information on the presence or absence of allergens and specify the origin of unprocessed pork, sheep, goat or chicken meat, as well as increase the labelling font and highlight allergens.
