Oil & gas company OMV Petrom accidentally pollutes river in Romania

The Arges Environmental Guard fined oil & gas company OMV Petrom with EUR 22,400. Another local institution sanctioned the same operator with almost EUR 8,000, after the company had polluted the Cotmeana river on a 12-km stretch, due to a fault in a crude oil transport pipe.

The pollution accident took place on Sunday, when a crude oil main broke, and 300 liters of crude oil and 30 liters of salt water spilled into the waters of the Cotmeana river, in southern central Romania, according to the Arges local council, cited by local Mediafax.

The authorities recommended locals not to use the water in the Cotmeana river until they depollute the river.
