Omniasig reports gross written premiums down 10% in six months in Romania

Insurer Omniasig Vienna Insurance Group reported in the first half of 2011 a volume of gross written premiums of EUR 103.6 million (RON 433.13 million), down 10.5 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the company.

In the first half of this year, the amount of paid claims was down to EUR 74.9 million (RON 313.14 million), with 13.8 percent lower than the same period of 2010, while Casco insurance fell by 37.6 percent over the same period last year, registering a value of gross written premiums of EUR 35 million (RON 146.36 million).

On the property type line of insurance, insurances against fire and natural disasters totaled gross written premiums value of EUR 13 million (RON 55 million), down 39.5 percent over the same period of 2010. Agricultural insurance also maintained its growth pace, reaching a value of gross written premiums of EUR 1.9 million (RON 8 million).

Increases were also recorded for the marine transport insurance, up 52.7 percent from the first half of last year, with a the value of gross written premiums of EUR 961,000 (RON 4 million), for air transport insurance and for accident and sickness insurance.

Omniasig is active on the insurance market in Romania since 1995, and in 2005 became a member of the Austrian Vienna Insurance Group.
