OMV Petrom, Hidroelectrica and Complexul Energetic Oltenia were the most profitable companies in Romania in 2022, according to Economedia calculations based on the data published by the Ministry of Finance.

OMV Petrom replaced Fondul Proprietatea as the most profitable company last year.

With a turnover of over RON 55 billion in 2022, OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in Southeastern Europe, boasted a net profit of over RON 10.2 bln – up 282% y/y.

In second place is Hidroelectrica, the largest electricity producer in Romania. The company reported a profit of RON 4.3 bln in 2022, up 45% y/y. Its turnover was RON 9.2 bln last year.

Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CE Oltenia) ranks as the third most profitable company in 2022 with a net profit of RON 3.4 bln, a huge increase of 329% compared to 2021. Its turnover last year was RON 5.4 bln.

The next most profitable company was Fondul Proprietatea, which registered a net profit of RON 2.8 bln in 2022, down from RON 5 bln in 2021.
