11 November 2016

Every two days, a person in Romania dies in house fires, as there are some 6,000 such events annually, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).

About 180 people die in these fires. Most of the fires start at night.

The authorities launched yesterday a campaign to raise awareness for the installation and use of smoke and gas detectors in households.

Since 2012, there have been 20,800 fires in Romania. Most of them were recorded in Bucharest (over 1,700), Suceava county (some 1,000), and Iasi (800). The main causes are improvised or unattended heating systems or defective chimneys.
