Only one in ten Romanian doctors using the EUR 9 mln electronic prescriptions system
Only 10 percent of Romanian doctors have used the new electronic prescriptions system since its introduction earlier this month, said Vasile Astarastoae, the President of the Medical College of Romania.
"At the moment, nationwide, the electronic prescription is not implemented and cannot be used. Software crashes and the number of doctors using e-prescriptions is very small. Patients have nothing to gain, doctors have done extra work, and most pharmacies do not yet have the software and equipment,” said Astarastoae quoted by Romanian media.
He added that with training for doctors and the installation of the necessary equipment at pharmacies, the number of e-prescriptions issued could rise by the end of the year.
The entire electronic health system needed investments of EUR 9 million, from non-reimbursable EU funding.
