The inauguration of the Basarab flyover in Bucharest, which was initially scheduled for the end of March this year, has been delayed once again for new resistance tests, according to Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu. The flyover needs to be tested for both car and tram traffic. It will also include sensors which would send information about earthquakes, 40 seconds before an earthquake would happen, as well as traffic sensors, which will deliver information on the number of cars on the bridge and on  how long it would take to cross it.

The Basarab flyover connects the Nicolae Titulescu and Vasile Milea boulevards, in the vicinity of the North Railway station.Works on the flyover started in 2006 and were conducted by construction companies Astaldi and FCC. The project's cost reached EUR 160 million. It should have been finalized in 2009, according to the initial deadline.
