Romanian opposition parties file no-confidence motion against Govt.

21 June 2018

The leaders of the main opposition parties in Romania’s Parliament, PNL, USR and PMP, filed a no-confidence motion against the PSD-ALDE government led by Viorica Dancila on Wednesday, June 20.

Some 152 MPs signed the motion. However, in order to pass, the motion needs to be voted by half of the MPs, namely 233. PSD and ALDE have 248 senators and deputies and can also ask for support from the Magyar Union – UDMR and minorities, which have 47 MPs, so there are low chances that the motion will pass.

However, the opposition hopes to convince some of the ruling coalition’s MPs, who are unhappy with PSD leader Liviu Dragnea’s leadership, to support the motion. The vote should take place within the next two weeks.
