Orange Romania sees 7% higher sales in the third quarter

22 October 2015

Orange Romania, the country’s biggest mobile carrier, increased its revenues by 7% in the third quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of last year, to EUR 242.2 million. Romania was the best-performing market in Europe for French telecom group Orange, as revenues went down in its biggest markets (France, Spain, and Poland).

“Romania gained 7.0% in the 3rd quarter after rising 6.4% in the 2nd quarter, led by mobile services and to a lesser extent by mobile equipment sales and fixed television services,” according to Orange’s financial release.

In the first nine months of this year, Orange Romania had almost EUR 700 million in revenues, up by 3.2% compared to the same period of 2014.

The company had 10.28 million clients at the end of September, 79,000 more compared to the end of June.

Compared to December 2014, the total number of clients dropped by about 250,000.

The main growth driver was the mobile internet segment. The 4G mobile internet traffic increased by 60% in the third quarter compared to the second quarter and six fold compared to Q3 2014. Orange also sold two times more 4G smartphones and four times more 4G tablets compared to the third quarter of last year.

Orange currently has the highest 4G coverage in Romania, reaching 96% of the urban population and 71% of all population (over 4,200 cities and villages). It recently finished a major project aimed at increasing its network capacity in Bucharest by 50%. The company also provides the highest mobile internet speeds, according to official reports published by the telecom regulator ANCOM.

Orange launched two smart stores in Romania this year, one in Cluj-Napoca and one in Bucharest, and recently renewed its subscription portfolio, in line with its new international brand identity.
