Organized crime groups infiltrate high-level public institutions in Romania

09 October 2015

Organized crime groups have managed to enter Romania’s high-level public institutions, according to the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI’s annual report for 2014. Civil servants or officials are members or even coordinators of these groups.

The justice system saw interferences from certain interest groups in 2014. These have taken place because of the connections between these groups and magistrates, policemen, lawyers, court clerks, and liquidators, reports local Mediafax.

The profile of Romania as a possible target for terrorist attacks slightly increased last year, due to the country’s membership in international military and political alliances and its support to the Coalition group against the Islamic state.

SRI also noted that the fundamentalist propaganda has increased especially on the Internet. This includes anti-Western, anti-Israeli or pro-Jihad comments.
