Over 18 mln Romanians eligible to vote for president this fall, extra half a million from abroad
Over 18 million Romanians will be able to vote for the country’s new president on November 2 this year. The latest electoral roll update shows 18.3 million Romanians who can vote in the first election round. The number of Romanians who can vote in the second round however is higher by 7,800. The difference in numbers could be explained by the people who turn 18 between the tour electoral rounds.
The statistics put forward by the Romanian Electoral Authority are however lower than those published in August, down by some 22,500 people. The change was triggered by the operations done by mayor in the permanent rolls, and by a data import form the Interior Ministry.
Over half a million Romanians will vote from abroad – some 530,000. Romanians abroad sent EUR 1.85 bln home in six months
By Romanian law, electoral rolls are printed out by mayors, with a print deadline on October 31 for the first round, and November 14, for the second round, schedule two days later.
