More than 2.6 million companies have been registered, and 1.13 million have been closed in Romania since 1990, according to data from the Romanian Trade Registry’s Office ONRC.

The average activity period of a limited liability company SRL is 9 years and 9 months.

The average Romanian entrepreneur is male, 40 to 49, lives in the city and is active in trade, construction or transports, according to Silvia Calin-Mihalcea, ONRC general manager.

Almost two thirds (64%) of the enterprises registered in Romania are SRLs. The majority of the SRLs (91.6%) are micro-enterprises with an average of 2 employees and an average turnover of some EUR 48,000 per year.

Cluj county ranks second after the capital Bucharest by number of registered firms.
