Over 4,000 volunteers plant 78,000 trees in Romania in two years, protecting environmentally at-risk areas
The social initiative We Plant Good Deeds in Romania (Plantam Fapte Bune in Romania) has organized tree planting sessions on 31 hectares of public land in Romania since 2011. A total of over 78,000 trees were planted by 4,850 volunteers in last two years, in environmentally at-risk areas, such as damaged agricultural land suffering from landslides and regions affected by the desertification phenomenon, according to the institution.
Over 17 hectares of land located in seven counties in Romania were planted by 1,600 volunteers in 2012. The trees planted in Arges, Constanta, Ialomita, Prahova, Mures, Satu Mare and Timis counties were chosen based on recommendations made by experts in forestry, shows the social initiative’s 2012 Annual Report.
We Plant Good Deeds in Romania attracted 86 percent more funds in 2012 compared to the previous year, to a total of some EUR 77,300. “The companies’ contributions generated the development of important actions at a national level, whether these resources were received as financial aid, pro bono services, in-kind donations, or even the assumption of some expenses by some of the collaborators in our behalf,” according to the institution.
We Plant Good Deeds in Romania is volunteer program in Romania. The initiative is scheduled to run for a period of five to seven years at a national level and its main objectives are to report illegal deforestation, to organize tree plantings on public land that is not currently included in the forest fund, to monitor the plantings and to perform maintenance activities.
