Over 85% percent of Romanians have broadband internet coverage
Every household in the European Union can have access to basic broadband connection, due to the availability of the broadband satellite services at a pan-European level, reads a statement of the European Commission’s Office in Romania. Satellite connections are now available in all 28 Member States.
Romania is 87 percent connected to broadband internet, according to the data provided on Broadbandforall.eu.
“My motto is: “Information available to all Europeans” and now every European has this opportunity. We still have much to do to improve networks and make sure citizens have equal opportunities to connect to the internet, but this opportunity exists,” said Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission.
The 2013 objective to ensure that all citizens have access to a broadband connection has been met, this being a major achievement for the European citizens, Kroes added.
By end-2012, 99.4 percent of EU households had access to basic broadband services, including some 96 percent of the households located in rural areas.
There are 148 satellites providing services to the EU citizens, according to the statement. Basic packages start from EUR 10 per month, packages with a speed of 25 Mbps start from EUR 25 per month, while the average prices for satellite antennas is EUR 350.
