Overdue loan payments down by 11.8% in Romania

The arrears on loans for individuals and companies amounted to over EUR 6.45 billion at the end of 2014.

The amount went down by 11.8% over the same period in 2013, according to data from the Romanian National Bank (BNR), cited by local Mediafax.

The arrears in national currency reached EUR 2.71 billion, down 6.5% while those in foreign currency amounted to about EUR 3.72 billion, down 15.4%.

The overall loans totaled EUR 47.7 billion at the end of 2014, down by 3.1% over 2013.

Individuals owed about EUR 22.9 billion while the companies’ loans reached EUR 23.9 billion.

The population took consumer loans worth EUR 10.9 billion, housing loans worth EUR 10.1 billion and other types of loans amounting to EUR 1.5 billion.
