Pakistani citizen banned from Romania for 10 years due to terrorist links

10 April 2018

A Pakistani citizen was declared undesirable in Romania for ten years after the authorities found that he was carrying out activities that represent a threat to the national security.

The Pakistani citizen, identified by his initials M.I.R., came to Romania several years ago and obtained the right to stay in the long term. However, he came into the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI’s attention in 2016, amid information that he was going through a religious radicalization process, carrying out extremist-terrorist propaganda online.

“The promotion of certain ideas, concepts and attitudes specific to the terrorist entity leads to the intensification of propagandistic activities among Romanian co-religionists, accelerating the risk of their radicalization. At the same time, it also allows the creation of fanatic groups of supporters of the objectives promoted by the terrorist entity, which are able to support any extremist elements from the outside or even act directly on their command,” reads SRI’s press release.

Thus, at SRI’s proposal, the Bucharest Court of Appeal declared M.I.R. undesirable in Romania for ten years. He is no longer in the country.
