Parliamentary elections scheduled for December 2 in Romania

27 August 2012

Romania will organize parliamentary elections on December 2 this year, with the Government aiming to make the needed decisions in its September 1 meeting. The Government will meet on Saturday, September 1, to issue 10 decisions needed to organize the elections, said Interior Minister Mircea Dusa.

The current Parliament was validated on December 19, 2008, and, according to the Constitution, its mandate has to be of exactly four years.

After parliamentary elections, the country's President has 20 days to summon the new Parliament in its first meeting, which is why the December 2 date was chosen, even if it comes after Romania's National Day, December 1, and after St. Andrew, on November 30, which is a free day.
