Passenger car sales in Romania fall by 14.7% in first seven months of 2011

Passenger car sales in the first seven months of 2011 fell by 14.7 percent in Romania, compared to the same period of 2010, to 52,249 units, according to the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA). In July, 2011, car sales also dropped by 12.8 percent compared to the previous month, to 9,016 units.

The total sales in the first seven months of this year, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses, reached the level of 61,080 units, with 10.5 percent lower than the level reported in the same period in 2010. In July, compared to the previous month, total sales also dropped by 11.3 percent, to 10,407 units.

In the first seven months of 2011, passenger car production in Romania also decreased by 9.2 percent compared to the same period last year, to 185,580, while passenger car exports also reported an year-on year decrease of 8.7 percent, according to APIA.

The number of imported passenger cars decreased by 9 percent in first seven months, to 36,971 units.
