Pensions increase by 10% in Romania

02 July 2018

The pension point based on which all state pensions in Romania are calculated increased by 10%, from RON 1,000 to RON 1,100 (EUR 236), starting July 1.

The minimum pension guaranteed by the state also went up by 23%, from RON 520 to RON 640 (EUR 137), local News.ro reported.

The Social Democratic Party’s governing program provides that the pension point should further increase to RON 1,265 in 2019 and RON 1,775 in 2020.

This will also put extra pressure on the state pension system. The public pension fund’s deficit is expected to go up from RON 14.1 billion in 2017 to RON 17.2 billion (EUR 3.7 billion) this year.
