How many people under police monitoring in Romania?

14 July 2015

Almost 4,000 people were placed under judicial control and another 1,500 were under house arrest in Romania in the first half of 2015.

At the beginning of July, almost 6,100 people were under police monitoring, 600 of which were under house arrest, according to the Romanian Police.

The prosecutors usually ask for preventive measures during investigations to prevent suspects to interfere with the probes. People under house arrest can’t leave their homes, while those under judicial control can’t leave the country (or town of residence) and must go to the police station where they are registered once a week. They are also forbidden to talk to other people (suspects/witnesses) that are part of their cases.

In the first half of this year, over 200 people have broken the judicial control terms.
