Pfizer to expand on production segment in Romania through acquisition of Ferrosan
American pharmaceutical company Pfizer will buy the Danish food supplements producer Ferrosan Consumer Health, which owns a factory on the Romanian market, in Cluj – Napoca. The deal is expected to be closed in the second half of the year and will mark Pfizer's direct entry on production in Romania, after being present on the market only as importer.
Ferrosan bought a pharmaceutical production unit in Cluj – Napoca in 2007. Worldwide, Ferrosan posted a turnover of EUR 150 million in 2009. The local subsidiary, headquartered in Cluj – Napoca, posted a loss of EUR 5 million in 2009.
Pfizer, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies worldwide, posted sales of USD 50 billion in 2009. In Romania, it is the third largest pharma company, with sales of around USD 198 million, according to Wall-street.ro.
