On the last day of his private visit to Romania, the United Kingdom’s King Charles III visited the fortified church in Viscri, a UNESCO monument since 1999.
King Charles arrived in Viscri on June 6, in the famous region of Transylvania, and was welcomed by villagers and tourists with applause and cheers. "Your Majesty, Romania loves you!" said the Romanians present in Viscri upon his arrival, as reported by Adevărul.
The king arrived by car in the Transylvanian village but immediately stepped out as soon as he reached the street where the Blue House, one of his properties in Romania, is located. He was greeted with cheers and shook hands with everyone who was waiting for him, exchanging words with many of them.
He spent over 30 minutes inside the church in Viscri. Over 100 locals and tourists greeted the king, many of them touched or surprised by his approachability.
"I firmly believe that our king is the best ambassador of Romania. He is here to support NGOs and has drawn attention to this country in a positive way, mentioning the need to protect and promote it," documentary filmmaker Charlie Ottley, who praised Romania's biodiversity in his films, told Europa Libera.
King Charles III was in Romania between June 2 and 6, for his first overseas trip since being crowned on May 6. At the welcoming reception hosted by president Klaus Iohannis in Bucharest, the king said he has "always felt rather at home in Romania" in reference to his links to the infamous Vlad the Impaler through his great-grandmother Queen Mary. Afterwards, as the visit was largely private, the king preferred to stay at the house in Valea Zălanului.
