The Romanian Police arrested the man who managed to break into the famous Corvinilor Castle and steal RON 170,000 (over EUR 37,000) from the ticket office during the May 1 mini-holiday.

Gabriel Gal, 30, broke a leg after jumping from one of the castle’s walls during the robbery, and was admitted to a hospital in Hunedoara, reports local News.ro. That is where the police officers found him and took him in for questioning.

However, the police recovered only RON 1,800 so far, from the RON 170,000 the man managed to steal.

Gabriel Gal was placed under preventive arrest for 30 days, for theft. He has a criminal record for several theft offenses committed abroad.

The incident at Corvinilor Castle occurred the night from Monday to Tuesday last week. The RON 170,000 the man managed to steal represented the value of tickets tourists had bought over the weekend to visit the medieval castle.
