Pope Francis to meet president Iohannis, PM during Romania visit

Pope Francis will meet with president Klaus Iohannis and PM Viorica Dăncilă during his visit to Romania, scheduled between May 31 and June 2.

He will meet the president, the PM, and members of the diplomatic corps on May 31st. The same day, he will have a meeting with Patriarch Daniel, will visit the recently inaugurated People’s Redemption Cathedral and deliver the liturgy at St. Joseph catholic cathedral in the capital.

Some 20,000 people are expected to attend the service at St. Joseph cathedral, News.ro reported. Screens and loudspeakers will be placed on the streets surrounding the cathedral, to allow believers to watch the service. Access will be free at all the public events during the Pope’s visit in Romania. However, tickets will be available for a designated Area 0. Those interested need to check with their parishes about the logistics.

Besides Bucharest, he will visit Iași, Blaj, and the Marian sanctuary in Şumuleu-Ciuc.

On June 1st, he will visit the Marian sanctuary in Şumuleu-Ciuc, where the Hungarian community has been gathering for a long time, then Iasi, where he will attend meetings with the young. On June 2nd, he will be in Blaj, where he will hold a beatification liturgy for the seven Greek-Catholic bishops who died in Romania during communism. A meeting with the Roma community will also take place.

The public television TVR will broadcast the Pope’s visit in Romania and the services he will deliver in the country.
