Portugal confirms that it will sell five more F-16 fighters to Romania
Portugal’s Defense Ministry confirmed that it would sell five more F-16 fighters to Romania and that it would replace them with other aircraft to be bought from the US and refurbished in Portugal, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa, quoted by News.ro.
This comes to confirm Romanian defense minister Mihai Fifor’s announcement that Romania would buy five more F-16s from Portugal by the end of this year.
Romania bought a squadron of 12 F-16 multirole aircraft from Portugal in 2013. The contract had a total value of EUR 628 million, which included the refurbishing done by US group Lockheed Martin and training the Romanian pilots.
