Possible heating, hot water service halt in Bucharest in two weeks
The Bucharest City Hall has managed to avoid heating and hot water service interruption after gas company Romgaz said it would stop delivering natural gas to RADET, the company that manages the heating in the Romanian capital.
Bucharest’s interim mayor Stefanel Marin said on Friday, November 6, that it agreed with the Energy Ministry to receive the subsidy for December already, and pay the due amounts to Romgaz. This gives Bucharesters two more weeks of heating and hot water. The announcement came as Romgaz threatened it would stop delivering gas on Friday at noon.
In two weeks, however, a decision is needed, as there are no more funds for other subsidies. A gas delivery halt to RADET would result in not heating for everyone connected to the city’s central heating system. Those who have apartment heating systems would not be affected.
Despite the interim mayor's announcement, some Bucharesters already face a halt in hot water delivery.
RADET has debts the gas company, as well as to the electricity and water suppliers. The state company, which is managed by the City Hall, has not increased its tariffs since 2011, even though other service suppliers have increased prices by over 40 percent.
