President Basescu to address Parliament on Tuesday
Romanian President Traian Basescu will address the Romanian Parliament on Tuesday, when he plans to deliver a message on domestic affairs issues. This is the President's first message to the joint plenary session of the two Parliament Chambers during his second mandate.
The session will start at 15,00 hours and the presidential message is the first of a 22-discussion points agenda.
Opposition party the National Liberal Party (PNL) has announced that the PNL senators and deputies would not attend the meeting on September 21.
'We believe that Traian Basescu's statements, regardless of the context in which they are made, cannot be treated with all due respect and gravity in relation to the position this person is temporarily holding,' reads a PNL press release.
Traian Basescu addressed a message to the Romanian Parliament on September 15 last year on main political issues and presented a summary of his five-year mandate.
In 2009, the Romanian President addressed a message to the Legislature twice, on March 9, when he mainly tackled issues related to the economic situation and the possibility of contracting an external loan and on April 14, when he referred to the situation in the Republic of Moldova.
