President: Minorities in Romania get positive discrimination
Minorities benefit from positive discrimination in Romania: they are represented in the Parliament and have the possibility to take part in local elections, and this does not happen everywhere in Europe, said President Klaus Iohannis, reports local Mediafax.
The Romanian legal system includes the positive discrimination concept, and this is a valuable thing, which Romania needs to preserve.
Iohannis, while invited to the Akzente TV show on the Romanian state television TVR, also talked about the German Forum in Romania and the idea of transforming it into a political party, which he doesn’t consider a good one. He believes that a great deal of the German Forum’s activity involves social and economic aspects, which would be difficult to keep if the institution goes political.
The German community is too small to have two such institutions, a political one and a social and economic one, Iohannis said. In 2011, Romania had about 6,884 ethnic Germans.
