President of Tourism Authority: Romania expects more tourists from China and the Republic of Moldova

Romania may register an increase in the number of tourists from China and the Republic of Moldova in the following period, according to Razvan Filipescu, president of the National Authority for Tourism.

“We expect a growth in the number of tourists from China the Republic of Moldova. We pay special attention to incoming tourism, because it can be the heart of the economy. We have talks with tour operators on their concerns, including reducing VAT on tourism services, the law on holiday vouchers to increase domestic tourism,” said Filipescu, cited by local Agerpres.

Romanian accommodation units welcomed 121,000 foreign tourists in March this year, most of whom came from other European countries. The number of foreign tourists was up 12 percent year-on-year, as recorded by Romanian accommodation units, according to the country’s Statistics Institute INS.

Meanwhile, 1.7 percent more foreigners entered Romania, as recorded at the border: 542,000, most of which came from European countries.
